Tourist Days Are Upon Us! Photos and More

Just like magic, the streets of Pokhara are now filled with international tourists. Shops that were boarded up have come to life and peddlers of all sorts are plying the streets on foot, bicycle and scooter (cars are few here because there is a 300% tax on them).

These are the months that the city has lived for. Everyone hoping to make enough to get them through the rest of the year. The monsoon has not quite stopped yet but treks are being planned and climbers are acclimating for the higher altitude hikes.

Along Lake Fewa there is a lovely footpath. It is now teeming with life. Here are a few photos:

Boats to rent are being checked out, repaired and painted

Fruit and juice stands along the footpath are fully stocked with coconuts, pomegranates and papayas ready to be whipped up into your favorite smoothie

All along Lake Fewa there are small quays where you can step out and feel the cool lake air and snap some great photos. Here is the lovely flag of Nepal  on one quay notice it has the sun and moon. on it representing the ancient heritage of Nepal.

This man has outfitted his bike with a small grill on the handlebars. He makes roasted corn-a Nepali delight. He is just one example of the many peddlars trying to make a few rupees. One man sits with a scale on the side of the path and charges for people to weigh themselves, etc. Women sell fruit slices and other snacks from folding tables.

The more affluent Nepalese have bars and open air restaurants along the footpath. It is quite charming when it gets darker and all the lights go on.

There is also a small amusement park. The rides seem a bit beat-up but the kids love it. It is on my bucket list to ride the ferris wheel at least once.

Photos of the day : a handful of snails and a dog for hire! LOL
