Day 3 Having Some Fun in Ghandruk Before Heading to Landruk

Hi again! Today I am writing about day 3 of my trek. If you read about day 2 you will understand when I say that I slept like a log on night 2. However both my guide and myself had dreams about leeches and I had dreams about slipping and falling.

We started out day 3 by looking around Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a hiking hub and many of the treks in the Annapurna area pass through there. There are a ton of guest houses mostly small family endeavors that are rudimentary. But there are also remnants of the original Gurung mountain people lifestyle to be seen. Nepal has over 100 different ethnic groups in the country.

This Gurung lady consented to allow a photo together. Her jewelry was exquisite- turquoise with red coral and real gold accents. She also had lovely earrings.

Here are a cluster of traditional Gurung homes nestled on the hillside.

Ghandruk is a touristy kind of place and for $1 ,I could dress up in traditional Gurung attire. Being a clothes horse type of gal I went for it!

This is a traditional Nepali meal fondly called Dal-Bhat (soup and rice) by the locals. I had this at the nice lodge I recuperated at in Ghandruk.

Our next destination was Lankdruk .You can see Landruk from Ghandruk- it is located just many steps down the hills and then many steps up the other side. It was raining again but we were traveling on the stone steps so leeches were fewer ...but still dangerous hiking. We saw a lot of landslides due to big rains- some of them blocked our way. Many people have lost their homes in the monsoon season this year and are living in
tents.

This house was damaged overnight by a landslide-
luckily no one was killed. We picked our way over the rubble.

When we descended from Ghandruk we crossed another raging river replete with monsoon water.

We reached our lodge on the hillside and settled in with some great views as reward for the previous days hardships.

Some great views revealing as a reward for our efforts!
